The Hamilton Recognized with Outstanding Rehabilitation Award

June 4th, 2013

The New York State Agency for Homes and Community Renewal recently awarded BartonPartners the Outstanding Rehabilitation Award for our work with Conifer Realty on The Hamilton in Rochester, New York.

For the 206 unit mixed-use rehabilitation project, BartonPartners redesigned the existing 1970 brutalist concrete building façade to feature an abstract pattern consisting of 21 different complementary colored panels. Illuminated by LED lighting each night, The Hamilton is now one of the most visible buildings of the city’s skyline. The color pallets’ positive impact upon the community and residents’ perception of the facility has been dramatic, creating a whole new image and reality for this once troubled subsidized housing facility.

In addition to the facade coloration, BartonPartners designed new north and south entryway canopies and enhanced landscaping and lighting around the building and the parking area.

The HCR Design Awards were created to honor outstanding examples of residential design work in the affordable housing sector. BartonPartners received the only award distributed to a non-New York firm.

Additional awards distributed include: Outstanding Family Residence, Outstanding Senior Residence, Outstanding Previous Year’s Design, and Overall Outstanding Design. This year marks the debut of The HCR Design Awards.
