September 21, New York, NY — The Hamilton proudly received the 2010 Innovator of the Year Award from the New York State Association for Affordable Housing. The Hamilton is conveniently located on the Genesee River and the River walkway in the popular Southwedge neighborhood in Rochester, NY.

The Hamilton has played an extraordinary role in the overall community revitalization. This affordable housing project has risen out of a site that, for decades, was defined by decay and despair. The collaboration of Conifer Realty and BartonPartners on the Hamilton has resulted in a remarkable success story creating hope for its residents.

One of the distinct features of the building’s architecture is the colorful, modern façade which compliments the Rochester skyline. BartonPartners had to work within challenging constraints; creating a new look without reconstructing the footprint or facade. “It’s easy to make a successful building when you don’t have limitations. We are exceptionally proud to have made such a dramatic impact on the design of this building given the project’s constraints,” explains Tom Barton, founder of BartonPartners. Twenty-one different complementary colored panels were used in a random pattern across the existing grid. The color scheme of blues, yellows, and beiges create an uplifting and welcoming structure that residents would be proud to call home.
